DEMOCRATIC TURNOUT OUTPERFORMS REPUBLICAN IN MONMOUTH COUNTY PRIMARY

TINTON FALLS, NEW JERSEY – The Monmouth County Democrats congratulate the endorsed candidates for securing victories in last night’s Primary Election as we make our way to the general election. With all 485 precincts reported in Monmouth County, the Democratic turnout for the U.S. Senate in the 2026 Primary Election had outpaced Republican ballots cast by approximately 15%.

The Monmouth County Democrats were proud to endorse Cory Booker for U.S. Senate, Frank Pallone, Jr. for Congressional District 6, Rachel Peace for Congressional District 4, Herb Conaway, Jr. for Congressional District 3, Anthony L. Cherry for Surrogate, and Chelsey Tanner & Sofia J. Ugarte for County Commissioner, in addition to their slate of Municipal and County Committee Candidates.

“The surge of Democrats voting across the country is consistent with the longtime groundwork our grassroots efforts have built since I first took office as Chair in 2024,” states Monmouth County Chairwoman Dyese Davis. “Monmouth County has shown to be the bellwether for not just the state, but the entire county. We are seeing a shift of folks towards our base as we have more candidates stepping up to the plate to run for office, and make inroads within their own communities so that we can build from the bottom up.”

Chairwoman Davis and Vice-Chairwoman Gunn are running for reelection alongside their executive board running mates: Meg Thomann as Recording Secretary, Dr. Veverly Wyche as Corresponding Secretary, Victoria Pacheco as Treasurer, and recent newcomer Jason Corley, Sr. as Sergeant-at-Arms. The Davis-Gunn leadership team welcomes its candidates who are running among our 53 municipalities in November’s election. We thank all of the candidates who stepped up to run and demonstrated commitment and drive to serve the residents of Monmouth County.

Anthony Cherry for Surrogate and Chelsey Tanner & Sofia J. Ugarte for Commissioner formally announce their campaigns for 2026.

MONMOUTH COUNTY, NEW JERSEY – Anthony L. Cherry for Surrogate and Chelsey Tanner & Sofia J. Ugarte have filed their candidacies to represent Monmouth County across its 53 municipalities.

Running under the ‘Official Monmouth County Democratic Organization’ banner, Anthony, Chelsey, and Sofia are uncontested in the June 2 primary and will advance to the general election.

“It’s time for a change in Monmouth County; The current system we have in place does not work for the residents of Monmouth County. That’s why Chelsey, Sofia, and I have stepped up to move Monmouth County forward,” says Anthony Cherry.

“I’m excited to announce my candidacy for Monmouth County Commissioner alongside Sofia Ugarte and Surrogate Candidate Anthony Cherry. We are running to bring representation back to Monmouth County, and to meet residents where they are - in their communities,” Chelsey Tanner states.

“We have been overjoyed by the outpouring of support from across the county - from Freehold Twp to Neptune to Middletown - and we are excited to kick off this campaign with just one priority in mind: you,” says Sofia J. Ugarte.
